February - The Role of Public Relations in Branding

Join us on Thursday, May 17 for a presentation by Robin Luymes, APR, about managing your organization's reputation online. As manager--PR & Editorial for Quixtar Inc., Robin is responsible for Quixar's reputation programs, including a variety of Web initiatives. As part of his Reputation 2.0 presentation, Robin will share how Quixtar is "getting naked" and diving into the online dialog about Quixtar's business.

May - A Taste of Wine & Networking
Join fellow WMPRSA members and other PR professionals for a unique networking event in Kalamazoo. We will gather at Vintner's Cellar, a small winery in downtown Kalamazoo, for wine tasting and a discussion on how public relations has helped build identity and success for this small business in a challenging competitive environment. Irene Kokkinos and Alex Mantakounis, co-operators of Vintner's Cellar, will share the brief history of their 18-month-old business, which bottles and sells locally handcrafted wines, and how their quick success has sprung from creative community outreach.
In addition to samples of wine, there will be a variety of cheeses, fruit and non-alcoholic beverages available.
This is a great opportunity to meet new professionals, invite colleagues, gain new insights into small-business PR, and sample some extraordinary wine. Please join us!

Video Gaming to Communicate With Stakeholders: CANCELLED
The Video Gaming to Communicate with Stakeholders presentation scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled due to low registration numbers. Thank you for your interest and continued support of programming brought to you by WMPRSA.

Recently video games eclipsed box office receipts and CD sales to become the number one destination for consumer entertainment dollars. An estimated 100 million players world-wide participate in massively-multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs). Transactions of virtual currency and items in video games are now so lucrative the IRS is investigating taxing them. Organizations ranging from Toyota to Harvard are now establishing virtual identities through gaming. How can video games enhance interaction with stakeholders? How can organizations best leverage this new technology to communicate key messages, solicit feedback, attract customers, and even train employees?

September - Case study: The Role of PR in Introducing Lattes to the Big Mac Crowd
When the world knows your client for its burgers and fries, how do you convince consumers that your client has a new and exciting product line that is comparable to high-end coffeehouses? Introducing iced mochas and other specialty coffee espresso drinks into the world of the Big Mac was the communications challenge faced by Seyferth Spaulding Tennyson (SST) when McDonald's chose Michigan as a test market for its new line of McCafe Specialty Coffee espresso drinks.
At WMPRSA's September event, SST President Ginny Seyferth and Michigan McDonald's corporate representative Michael Pietrangelo will discuss how SST was able to translate the corporate objectives into local PR programs that appealed to both McDonald's loyal customers and fans of specialty coffees who were not necessarily McDonald's customers.
The new product rollout - and its unique, fresh-milk partner - recently won the prestigious 2006 Best Bets Award from McDonald's Corporation and has become the model for the introduction of specialty coffees in McDonald's nationwide

Third Annual School Supply Drive and Summer Outing

Help Pack Up the Summer with the 2007 School Supplies Drive and Picnic
Kick up your heels and join the West Michigan Public Relations Society of America, Ad Club of West Michigan and the American Marketing Association to hear the sounds of summer at the Frederik Meijer Gardens on Tuesday, August 21, the date of our school supplies drive benefiting students in Grand Rapids Public Schools. Pack a backpack full of school supplies as a donation and a picnic dinner for an evening of fun before the summer ends. Creolization, Happy Hour and Mantra are the featured acts for the evening as part of the Tuesday Night Music Club at the Gardens.
So bring a friend to hear some of the best live music Grand Rapids has to offer and network with other industry professionals.
