PRSA ACCREDITATION MARKETING COMMITTEE LAUNCHES PODCAST SERIES ON VALUE OF APR CREDENTIAL

NEW YORK (Aug. 16, 2006) –- The Accreditation Marketing Committee of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is offering a series of podcast programs for PR professionals about the value of earning the "Accredited in Public Relations" or APR credential. The APR is earned by taking the rigorous examination offered by PRSA and eight other partner organizations that comprise the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB).

PRSA’s Accreditation Marketing Committee is producing, in conjunction with Cherry Hill, N.J.-based Professional Podcasts LLC, podcast interviews describing different aspects of the accreditation process and their meaning and value for practitioners who have earned the credential. Steve Lubetkin, APR, Fellow, PRSA, managing partner of Professional Podcasts, is hosting the programs.

The first podcast features an interview with Accreditation Marketing Committee chair Edward M. Bury, APR, director of public relations at the CCIM Institute. In the podcast, Bury describes how he decided to become Accredited and the value of the APR to his professional career. Future podcasts will feature conversations with other Accredited PR professionals about different aspects of preparation for the APR examination, the exam readiness review process and other topics related to the Accreditation credential.

“We are very excited to take advantage of podcasting technology to reach our members and other interested audiences to reinforce the value of professional PR accreditation,” said Bury. “Podcasting is an excellent way to distribute this kind of professional development content to our members and friends, and we can demonstrate how useful podcasting can be for disseminating educational programming worldwide.”

“Using a podcast to provide Accreditation information to its members and their customers demonstrates that PRSA and the Universal Accreditation Board have a clear vision for best-practices integration of such new social media into business applications, and underscores PRSA’s support for, and interest in, these technologies,” said Lubetkin. “Like PRSA, companies should understand that podcasts can provide clients and other constituencies’ mission-critical information conveniently, without tying those audiences to a less-flexible programming format like a conference call or a Web stream, where busy and time-constrained participants must gather at a common time. Podcast listeners get the information they need — at a time when they want it.”

The Accreditation podcast programs are available for downloading and listening on computers or digital audio players capable of playing MP3 formatted files at no charge on the UAB Web site.

The podcast is also available on the APR Podcast blog and in the Apple iTunes Music Store.

To access the podcasts through iTunes, you must have the free iTunes software installed on your computer, but it is not necessary to have an Apple iPod to use iTunes, or to listen to podcasts. Interested listeners can also subscribe to the podcast series RSS feed. There is no charge for downloading or subscribing to these podcasts.

Podcasts are digital audio or video recordings distributed using Internet technology. Visitors to an organization’s Web site can download podcast programs for review on their desktop computers or synchronize them with a portable digital media device. Software programs called “feed readers” or “podcatchers” allow users to “subscribe” to podcasts at no cost and receive new programs in a podcast series automatically.  Listeners can subscribe to the podcast RSS feed.
